Richard
The current exec director of Off Broadway’s Second Stage Theater, Ellen Richard, will depart her post at the end of the month.
No reason was given for the move, and a replacement has not been named.
Richard, who has been at Second Stage for three years, leaves as the org has quietly embarked on a capital campaign to fund the $35 million purchase of Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theater.
The 2010 addition of the Rialto venue to the company’s pre-existing programming on two stages (one Off Broadway and one Off Off) is estimated to double Second Stage’s operating budget to $14 million.
Prior to her stint at Second Stage, Richard had worked since 1983 at the Roundabout Theater Company, where she proved instrumental in the growth of the company into one of Gotham’s major legit nonprofits.
Richard has given no indication of her plans once she leaves Second Stage June 30.
