At Variety, he was one of the first trade writers to cover the fledgling cable industry and covered the Moscow and Sarajevo Olympics for his Sports Channels column. He wrote for the trade newspaper Film-TV Daily in the 1960s and for Variety from 1971-89.
Born in Brooklyn, Beermann lived most of his life in a walk-up in Greenwich Village.
He is survived by a daughter, Jane Stephens, and a son, Luke, an exec at Dubai's Rotana Television.
