Actor David Marks, four-time nominee and winner of the Helen Hayes award in 1990 for his legit role in Deborah Pryor's "Briar Patch," died June 3 in Washington, D.C., of a heart attack. He was 49.

Born in Seattle, Marks graduated from the U. of Washington-Seattle before attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he received his MFA in acting.

After moving to D.C. in 1987, Marks became a member of the Arena Stage Acting Company where he starred as Tony Lumpkin in "She Stoops to Conquer."

In addition to stage acting, Marks also lent his voice to several voice-over projects including Ken Burns' "The Civil War" and appeared in such films as "The Shadow Conspiracy," "Shot Through the Heart," "Deep Impact" and "Random Hearts."

He is survived by his wife, Garland Scott, and a son.
