Duroux named director general of TF1

Appointment intended to strengthen management

France's TF1 Group has tapped RTL exec Axel Duroux as director general.

The appointment is intended to strengthen management as the broadcasting group attempts to reduce it dependence on advertising revenue at its core TF1 channel, which reported revenue down 27% to E321 million ($427 million) in the first quarter of 2009. In contrast, revenue from sources other than advertising on TF1 edged up 2% in the same quarter to $288.5 million.

The former CEO of RTL in France, as well as a member of the supervisory board of broadcaster M6, Duroux will aid TF1 Group prexy Nonce Paolini as TF1 diversifies on many fronts.

This  includes the purchase, announced Thursday, of digital terrestrial channels TMC and NT1; the reinforcement of its TF1 Vision VOD service; a possible partnership with UGC in domestic film distribution and international sales; and a partnership with Sony in Gallic DVD distribution.
