The deal, negotiated by HarperCollins Children’s Books VP-editorial director Maria Modugno and DeFiore and Co.’s Laurie Abkemeier, provides for the titles to be published in a variety of formats. Three picture books, including “Marley Goes to School,” will be published in addition to several “I Can Read” books, a series for beginning readers.
The first book is scheduled for publication this summer.
Earlier “Marley” works by Grogan include the bestselling memoir “Marley: A Dog Like No Other,” an adaptation of the No. 1 adult bestseller “Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World’s Worst Dog” and bestselling picture book “Bad Dog, Marley!”
“John Grogan has such an endless supply of stories inspired by the original Marley that we knew we’d need an extended program to be able to tell them all,” Modugno said.
