One of the original co-hosts of "The View," she will now go solo to anchor the one-hour talkshow "The Joy Behar Show" on HLN beginning in the fall. Behar will continue on the Disney-owned "View" after moving over to the Turner cabler.
Behar has been a liberal voice on "The View," often getting into heated political debates with conservative co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. During the recent presidential election, the two would often spar when discussing the candidates and political parties.
"I'm a workaholic," Behar told Daily Variety. "My personality will come through and I'd like a lot of spontaneity to the show. I want people to guess what's going to be said next."
"The Joy Behar Show" will air at 9 p.m. seven days a week, following a lead-in of "Nancy Grace," HLN's top-rated show in the 25-54 demo.
Conway Cliff will exec produce "The Joy Behar Show."
"Lou Dobbs Tonight" currently airs in the 9 p.m. timeslot at HLN, but that will move over to CNN to make room for "Behar."
Ken Jautz, exec VP of CNN Worldwide, told Daily Variety that Behar's new program fits a strategy of offering a personality-driven lineup that Turner is hoping will build on HLN's profile as a cable news network to be included in discussions with Fox News, MSNBC and sister station CNN.
"Issues With Jane Velez-Mitchell," which airs at 7 p.m. on HLN, comments on issues of the day. Velez Mitchell replaced Glenn Beck, who went to Fox News.
"Over the last couple of years, we have developed a lineup of opinionated talkshows and we're programming to offer a passionate point of view," he said. "It's all about the host and expressing their point of view."
Behar isn't the first co-host of "The View" to take on a second job. In May Sherri Shepherd inked a deal to co-star in "Sherri," a multicamera comedy for Lifetime about a single mom who delves back into the dating scene. No launch date has been announced.
