New Island Festival sets slate

Schedule includes Hove, Amsterdam

The Dutch-themed New Island Festival -- an outdoor fest on Governor’s Island, co-produced by legit producer David Binder (“33 Variations,” “A Raisin in the Sun”) -- will include an unspecified production from director Ivo van Hove and Toneelgroep Amsterdam, the troupe whose stints Off Broadway have included stagings of “Hedda Gabler” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

Also on the fest’s slate, which has not yet been fully announced, are a site-specific outdoor “spectacle” called “Salto Vitale” and “Silent Disco,” a dance party in which all participants wear headphones.

The fest of Dutch imports, which runs Sept. 10-20, is presented as part of NY400, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s trip from Amsterdam to New York Harbor.

New York Theater Workshop (a frequent Stateside producer of van Hove’s work), the Joyce Theater and the Figment Festival co-present the New Island Fest with producers Binder and Eric Bijleveld.
