Channel 4 offers catalog online for free

'Queer as Folk,' 'Father Ted' among titles

Channel 4 is to become the country's first broadcaster to put its back catalog online free of charge.

Due to rights issues, U.S. fare including "Friends" and "ER" will be excluded from the offering that bows next month and gives users access to more than 4,000 hours of material.

These will include such classic titles as gay drama "Queer as Folk" and iconic sitcom "Father Ted." The shows will be available permanently rather than via a 30-day or seven-day window like the BBC's iPlayer.
