BSkyB links up with Xbox

Gamers given access to pay TV services

LONDON -- U.K. paybox BSkyB has signed a deal with Microsoft that will enable owners of the Xbox 360 games console in the U.K. and Ireland to access Sky Player, the online TV service, from this fall.

It is Xbox's first move into linear broadcast TV and will give users access to premium sports, movies and TV shows.

The satcaster said the partnership supports its broader strategy of using a range of distribution platforms to reach new audiences.

It also aims to give both new and existing customers more choice and control over how they access BSkyB content.

A number of subscription packages will be available, although details of these and prices are still to be announced.

Gamers will also be able to access programming on a pay-per-view basis.
