Oscilloscope nabs Gondry's 'Thorn'

Adam Yauch's Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American distrib rights to "The Thorn in the Heart," a documentary from helmer Michel Gondry.

Docu, which preemed in Cannes, revolves around Gondry family matriarch Suzette Gondry, the helmer's aunt, and her life as a schoolteacher in rural France. It also delves into her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves.

"Thorn" was financed and produced by "Green Hornet" helmer Gondry's shingle Partizan films. Doc is his second after his 2005 pic "Dave Chappelle's Block Party."

"Thorn" is set for a theatrical release, with a DVD and digital release to follow.

Pic marks Oscilloscope's 15th project in as many months, 10 of which are already in release. Oscilloscope's roster to date includes Michelle Williams starrer "Wendy and Lucy" and Kurt Kuenne docu "Dear Zachary."

Deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of Gondry and Partizan and David Fenkel for Oscilloscope.
