H.K.'s TVB lays off 110 employees

Company cuts staff for third time in six months

HONG KONG — Television Broadcasts, Hong Kong's main commercial TV group, has pinkslipped another 110 employees, the third time in six months it has made staff cutbacks.

TVB, which is headed by the centenarian Run Run Shaw, said the sackings were actually a realignment of human resources related to the development of new media.

General manager Stephen Chan told local media in Hong Kong that many of those fired could be rehired, as the broadcaster carries out new projects, including the establishment of digital electronic data storage, the expansion of online services, the construction of new studios and development of a metadata system, plus new movie productions.
