Based on true events, and drawing inevitable parallels with the kidnapping of Ingrid Betancourt, "Milagrosa" kicks off with the abduction of a well-to-do Colombian by FARC guerrilla forces. His time in captivity proves a life-changing experience.
In other FilmSharks deals at Cannes, Paris Filmes has taken Brazil and Eurofilms Peru on Argentine Juan Taratuto's B.O. hit "A Boy Friend for My Wife," which has struck a remake deal with an undisclosed company. "Boy Friend" has been licensed to near 20 territories.
Mexico's David Distribucion has closed a four-pic package with FilmSharks: San Sebastian Altadis New Director winner "Soul Carriage," from Conrad Clark; Venice Jury Prize winner "The Speed of Life," by Ed Radtke; Karlovy Vary Jury Prize winner "The Photograph"; and Tzahi Grad's upbeat revenge drama "Foul Gesture," an IFC U.S. pickup.
"Foul Gesture" will shortly close Germany, Scandinavia and France, FilmSharks' founder Guido Rud said Wednesday at Cannes.
FilmSharks also has picked up international on Johan Jonason's psychothriller "Guidance," about the sinister influence of new age gurus. Pic screened at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
