On Saturday, the Tuscany Film Commission in Cannes unveiled its new film fund, which will be providing $12 million over the next two years for feature films, TV movies and docus shot in the region.
The fund will offer up to $600,000 for works by established helmers who shoot at least 50% of their externals in Tuscany. First-time directors will be able to tap into a maximum of $270,000. Smaller amounts are available for docus screenplay development.
Eligible projects will have to meet cultural criteria and have a direct connection with the Tuscan territory. The region will be boarding works by non tyros as a co-producer.
The Tuscan funds can be combined with Italy's new tax credits, which provide international productions a 25% deduction with a E5 million cap.
Upcoming pics set to shoot in Tuscany include Abbas Kiarostami's Juliette Binoche starrer "Certified Copy," the Iranian auteur's first pic set outside Iran. Kiarostami's Chianti-set romancer, co-produced by MK2 and Italy's Angelo Barbagallo, is expected to start lensing in June.
