It's all thanks to a new documentary chronicling the tale of a band that arrived at the very edge of success in the 1980s. And then, nothing.
"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is something of a sleeper hit in the U.S. -- as well as some other territories such as the U.K., where it took in a solid $154,000 -- and is now being shopped at the Cannes Marche du Film.
When the film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, the two original members and childhood friends Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner decided they might as well perform at the fest.
Tonight, Anvil will perform in Cannes at Morrison's Irish Pub on rue Teisseire, from "10 p.m. 'til late," according to the invite, which also doubles as a beer coaster.
The Works Intl. is repping international rights to the docu, which was directed by Sacha Gervasi.
"Anvil's" performance in North America could up the film's profile for international distribs. Pic has grossed $297,000 at the domestic B.O. -- and $541,000 worldwide --since opening in three theaters on April 4.
That may not sound like a lot, but this is a tiny film that may be more than just an encore for Reiner and Kudlow.
