Van Rompaey to shoot 'Blue Birds'

Film follows three generations of Beijing family

BRUSSELS -- Belgian helmer Christophe Van Rompaey will travel to China to shoot his soph feature "Blue Birds."

Van Rompaey's Dutch-language debut "Moscow, Belgium" earned kudos in the Critics' Week sidebar last year andwent on to tour international fests and draw significant domestic coin.

"Blue Birds" follows three generations of one Beijing family, separated by past treason but reunited at the perf of a classic Chinese opera.

Principal photography is scheduled to start next spring, with a cast speaking Mandarin, English and French. Pic should bow later the same year.

Sancta Media of Belgium produces, in partnership with Xstream Pictures in Hong Kong and Beijing. Lead producer Kristoff Leue also penned the screenplay.

"Blue Birds" will be the first of four feature co-prods for Sancta under the "True Story" banner.
