Theatrical bolsters Image

Company to release six films theatrically a year

Homevid distrib Image Entertainment is getting into the theatrical releasing biz Stateside.

Image plans to release four to six films theatrically each year.

Among the company's recent pickups are the Richard Eyre-helmed thriller "The Other Man," toplining Liam Neeson, and Jennifer Aniston starrer "Management." Both were acquired after unspooling at the Toronto film fest last year.

"The Other Man" marks the first theatrical release that Image will handle internally, said Garrett Lee, Image's senior VP, theatrical.

Former Warner Independent Pictures exec Jon Harmon was recently hired as director of sales.

Lee, Harmon and Image's existing team will handle marketing and distribution. Samuel Goldwyn is currently handling the theatrical release of "Management," which opens this weekend in a limited bow.
