Gowarikar answers 'Buddha's' call

Director set for English-language biopic

Bollywood director Ashutosh Gowarikar has been tapped to direct the English-language biopic "Buddha" from a script by David S. Ward ("Sleepless in Seattle").

One of the first productions from BevHills-based B.K. Modi's Spice Enfotainment, the $35 million pic is in pre-production with lensing set to start in April, according to producer Bhuvan Lall. Michael Shane and Anthony Romano will also produce.

Cast has not yet been set; the film is likely to lense in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Pic will be Gowarikar's first in English. He previously helmed "Jodhaa Akbar" and "Lagaan," among other pics.

Spice Enfotainment is a subsid of telco, technology and financial services company Spice Group.
