The sci-fi prequel was set to open last weekend, as it did Stateside, where it raked in $79.2 million.
"Star Trek" earned an estimated $36 million overseas -- a number that almost certainly would have been a few ticks higher had the swine flu virus not brought Mexico to a halt late last month.
The virus that sparked worldwide pandemic fears drove authorities to shutter moviehouses in Mexico City from April 25 to May 7. That and a hotly contended order to space patrons at least seven feet apart in theaters spooked studios into pushing tentpole preems well back on the schedule.
The J.J. Abrams-helmed "Star Trek" will jump to warp speed here a week after the similarly delayed opening of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
