LaChanze (“The Color Purple”) plays good witch Glinda and Jones (“MadTV”) portrays the Wiz in the 1974 African-American redux of “The Wizard of Oz.”
Tichina Arnold (“Everybody Hates Chris”) plays wicked witch Evillene, with Dawnn Lewis (“A Different World”) appearing as Glinda’s sister Addaperle.
The previously announced Ashanti toplines the Summer Stars outing, staged by the “In the Heights” team of director Thomas Kail and choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler.
“Wiz” is the third offering from the Summer Stars series, the more fully produced spinoff of the Encores! program of semi-staged concert readings. Show runs June 12-July 5 at New York City Center.
