HOLLYWOOD -- It's probably not a good omen to arrive at a premiere and see trucks from the bomb squad parked across from the theater.

However, Thursday night the sniffing dogs were on hand for a Bill Clinton appearance at the Hollywood Roosevelt taking place across from the launch of J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" at the Chinese, which was a blast in only the best sense of the word.

"When the film was over, Sumner (Redstone) said to me, 'You're going to be making these movies long after I'm gone,' " said Par topper Brad Grey. "It's the only time I've ever heard him acknowledge his theoretical mortality."

After-party was a few blocks away in an industrial space redone in a stylish black and white design, where vice-chairman Rob Moore said the film has a sequel's key element: "It connects to those who love the franchise while introducing it to a whole new audience."
