FX nabs TV rights to 'Wolverine'
Network also picks up 'Taken,' 'Marley and Me'

In a deal that could be worth $80 million or more, depending on how big "Wolverine" becomes, FX secured a diverse eight-picture slate that also includes Academy Award nominee "The Wrestler," sci-fi remake "The Day the Earth Stood Still," date movie "Bride Wars" and actioners "12 Rounds" and "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li."
Package gives FX a wide variety of demo targets -- ranging from broad-based like "Wolverine" to family in "Marley" and both female- and male-oriented titles.
Deal is the latest in a series of big movie deals at FX, which has secured a variety of packages over the past few years from Universal (including "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," "Baby Mama"), Marvel ("Iron Man"), Paramount ("Tropic Thunder"), Sony ("Hancock") and DreamWorks Animation ("Kung Fu Panda").
Although the broadcast networks have mostly gotten out of the theatrical acquisitions game, the business is still booming on the cable side, where FX, USA and the Turner nets are still all aggressively pursuing feature packages.
In this case, as has become industry norm, FX is believed to be paying, on average, between 10% and 12% of each movie's domestic gross revenue.
Also as standard, the movies will come to FX approximately 30 months after their theatrical release -- which means "Wolverine" will likely show up on the cabler in the latter part of 2011.
