CAA has signed Richard Phillips, the captain of the 508-foot cargo ship Maersk Alabama who volunteered to be a hostage to save his crew.

The agency will help him navigate book and film offers, repping him in all areas.

Once four Somali pirates left the cargo ship aboard an 18-foot lifeboat with Phillips as their hostage, Phillips was held at gunpoint for five tense days, once trying unsuccessfully to swim away. He was rescued on Easter Sunday after U.S. Navy Seal snipers ended a five-day standoff by killing three of the four pirates holding Phillips. The drama garnered worldwide news coverage.
