"X-Men Origins: Wolverine" has been slapped with the highest rating the Swedish Board of Film Censors can deal out because of its scenes of violence.
Hugh Jackman starrer has been given a 15 classification, which means that no one under that age will be allowed into theaters -- even if accompanied by an adult.
The three previous "X-Men" films were all rated 11, which meant that they were suitable for that age group, but kids as young as 7 could see them with an adult.
Distrib Fox appealed the decision to Stockholm's Administrative Court of Appeal (Kammarratten) but on Thursday it backed the censors' ruling.
"Of course we respect the decision, but it is sad that so many fans won't be able to see the film," said Fox Sweden CEO Hansi Mandoki. "And I'm certain the decision will mean more illegal downloading of the film."
The decision comes as a surprise as other violent pics, including "State of Play," "Quantum of Solace" and "Valkyrie," were all rated 11.
