NBC won four of its nine Sports Emmys for the network's coverage of the Beijing Olympics.
NBC took a network-leading nine Sports Emmys at a Monday night ceremony held at the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.
HBO drew eight statuettes, followed by five each for CBS and Fox. ESPN landed four.
The Beijing Olympics garnered NBC four Emmys (including live event turnaround), while Bob Costas was named top sports host for his work at HBO and NBC, and Cris Collinsworth of NBC and NFL Network took sports analyst.
Among NBC’s wins were a live sports special nod for its coverage of the U.S. Open golf championship -- in which Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate -- as well as the live sports series kudo for the “Sunday Night Football” package.
HBO received three awards for its coverage of the Joe Calzaghe-Roy Jones boxing match, and the Eye earned two for studio show “NFL on CBS.”
Other individual achievements include Jim Nantz for top play-by-play announcer, and Terry Bradshaw and Tom Jackson for studio analysts.
NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol received the lifetime achievement award.
The Sports Emmys, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, are chosen by a blue-ribbon panel from among more than 750 entries.
