Cable net gives go-ahead for hourlong series

Skein, which will launch with a 90-minute pilot to be followed with 13 episodes, stars Matthew Bomer, Tim DeKay, Tiffani Thiessen and Willie Garson. Bomer plays a criminal mastermind who breaks out of jail and ends up working with the FBI to help catch other elusive crooks.
Series may begin in the fall but nothing is officially set.
"White Collar" is the second pilot pickup by USA this year. "Royal Pains," about a Manhattan doctor (Mark Feuerstein) who ends up reluctantly seeing patients in the Hamptons, was greenlit in January and will launch at 10 p.m. June 4 following the season-three premiere of "Burn Notice."
USA, which leads basic cablers in total viewers in primetime and in the 25-54 demo, will see "Monk" begin its eighth and final season in the summer. "In Plain Sight" launched its second season Sunday with slightly over 5 million viewers -- a solid figure that's just a notch less than the series premiere a year ago.
Also on Sunday, USA kicked off the new season of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent," with Jeff Goldblum added to the cast. Procedural drew 4.5 million viewers.
"White Collar" is executive produced by Jeff Eastin and is produced by Fox Television Studios.
