New Regency has set Brian Koppelman and David Levien to adapt the Josh Bazell novel "Beat the Reaper."

The drama, being developed as a potential star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio, revolves around a Manhattan ER doctor whose life becomes complicated when a mobster recognizes him from his former life as a hitman (Daily Variety, Jan. 9).

Julie Yorn is producing with DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran in a co-production of Appian Way and Rick Yorn's production-management company. Aaron Criswell will also be a producer.

Koppelman and Levien scripted Steven Soderbergh's "The Girlfriend Experience," which will premiere Tuesday at Tribeca.

The scribes also worked with Soderbergh on "Ocean's Thirteen." The duo most recently completed directing "Solitary Man" for Millennium Films.
