Launching during the holidays later this year on all vidgame systems except the PlayStation 2, “Lego Rock Band” will serve as a way to make the franchise more appealing to families and younger auds.
It will also help boost sales of the franchise, which competes with “Guitar Hero.” Sales for “Rock Band 2” have been weaker than expected since its bow last September, with more than 2 million units sold.
Harmonix has been promoting more downloadable content and is developing a version featuring tunes by the Beatles.
Its pair-up with Lego comes after the toymaker’s been able to breathe new life into the vidgame versions of familiar franchises with successful titles based on “Star Wars,” “Batman” and “Indiana Jones.”
TT Games, which developed those games, will co-create “Lego Rock Band” with Harmonix and Foundation 9 Entertainment-owned Backbone Entertainment. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will publish the game.
Title will incorporate Lego’s build-and-play mantra, enabling users to create their own Lego rock stars, bands, venues and stadiums, as well as roadies, managers and crew.
Blur’s “Song 2,” Carl Douglas’ “Kung Fu Fighting,” Europe’s “Final Countdown,” Pink’s “So What” and Good Charlotte’s “Boys and Girls” will be included in the list of songs to play.
Game will support all “Rock Band” instruments and game controllers when it bows on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS.
