UKFC boosts P&A at Optimum

'Loop,' 'Anybody' nabs distribution cash

LONDON — Several indie pics received a boost to their U.K. distribution budgets Thursday with an injection of coin from the U.K. Film Council's Prints and Advertising Fund.

One of the big winners was U.K. distrib Optimum Releasing, which received £210,000 ($313,000) and $268,000 for the releases of "In the Loop" and "Is Anybody There?" respectively.

Metrodome Distribution received $372,500 and $232,000 for "Fifty Dead Men Walking" and "Shifty." Michael Winterbottom's "Genova," also at Metrodome, took one of the smaller $7,500 awards.

Also receiving $7,500 were Axiom Films' "In the City of Sylvia," Artificial Eye's "Il Divo," Soda Pictures' "Modern Life," Kaleidoscope's "The End," High Fliers Films' "New Town Killers," New Wave's "Helen," Met Film's "Beyond the Fire," Dogwoof's "Cherry Blossoms," and Revolver Entertainment's "Tyson" and "Encounters at the End of the World."

An additional $149,000 went to Dogwoof's climate change drama "The Age of Stupid," and Swedish vampire pic "Let the Right One In" bagged $298,000 for Momentum.

Operating on a $5.96 million annual budget, the P&A Fund distributes money to smaller films in an effort to heighten their exposure. The money awarded can be used on publicity for the film as well as producing more prints to ensure a wider release.
