Kirch takes control at Constantin

Mogul increases stake to 25.85%

By ED MEZA

BERLIN — Munich media mogul Leo Kirch continues to consolidate his hold on the newly dubbed Constantin Medien after increasing his share to a controlling stake in the entertainment group.

Kirch previously held 17% of EM.Sport, which recently morphed into Constantin following its merger with Swiss entertainment group Highlight Communications, and had already been the conglom's biggest single shareholder.

On Wednesday, Constantin announced Kirch's holding firm, KF 15, had through various means increased its stake to 25.85%, giving the octogenarian industrialist the controlling stake.

Focusing on sports rights, film production and distribution, and sports and event marketing, Constantin controls production and distribution giant Constantin Film, producer of such films as "The Baader Meinhof Complex" and "Downfall," and German sports channel DSF, as well as marketing rights to UEFA Champions League soccer and the hugely popular Eurovision Song Contest.
