Matalon acquires 'Henchmen'

Adapting King's novel marks second collab

David Matalon's DM Prods. has snagged feature rights to Brit author Danny King's upcoming novel "The Henchmen's Book Club."

Deal marks the second collaboration between King and Matalon, who optioned King's 2007 novel "School for Scumbags" last year.

Story centers on a lowly henchman-for-hire working for some of the world's most notorious supervillains who starts up a book club with his fellow henchmen in order to pass the time, which was only ever meant to be fun and never meant to save the world.

King's authored six previous books and has worked as a manual laborer, postman, journalist, porn mag editor and burglar. He adapted his first novel "Thieves Like Us" into a sitcom for the BBC.

Matalon, who left the CEO slot at Regency Enterprises in 2007 to form DM Prods., is producing an adaptation by screenwriter Tony Peckham of Lionel Davidson's thriller "Kolymsky Heights."
