'Golden Girls' heading for Turkey

Classic sitcom recast with Turkish actresses

In a move that would dumbfound Rose and annoy Sophia, "The Golden Girls" is heading to Turkey.

Disney-ABC-ESPN Television has licensed the scripted format of the comedy series to independent production company Play Prods. to be broadcast on Turkish satellite broadcaster ATV.

The foursome will be played by Turkish thesps: Hulya Kocyigit as Dorothy, Nevra Serezli as Blanche, Fatma Girik as Sophia and Turkan Soray as Rose.

The original comedy aired on NBC for seven seasons, beginning in 1985, and garnered 68 Emmy nominations and 10 wins.
