The NBC Universal-owned cabler unveiled plans at its upfront presentation Wednesday to greenlight a pilot for a couples makeover show, "Mr. and Mrs. Makeover," fronted by the co-hosts of "Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood." Spelling and McDermott are also set to star in a romantic comedy telepic for the cabler.
New series coming to Oxygen later this year include "The Naughty Kitchen With Chef Blythe Beck," featuring the 29-year-old chef from Dallas, and "Addicted to Beauty," described as a "docu-comedy" set in the world of medical/beauty spas. Oxygen execs also touted the previously announced dance competish/weight-loss program "Dance Your Ass Off," which has cut a partnership pact with gym chain Crunch.
In development, the net has reality shows "Keshia and Kaseem," starring former "Cosby Show" kid Keshia Knight Pulliam, and "Celeb-U-Moms," following Hollywood mothers.
Oxygen g.m. Jason Klarman emphasized to the advertisers in the crowd that the cabler has been on the move since NBC Universal acquired it in early 2008. Net's ad revenue is up 20% year to year, while its median age has settled in at 39 after skewing much older for the past few years.
"These are people who are in an acquisitions stage of their lives," Bravo and Oxygen chief Lauren Zalaznick told the crowd at Manhattan's Arena Event Space.
Oxygen also unveiled a partnership with Spelling and McDermott that will see the duo produce original Web content tied to their two skeins and webisodes tied to Spelling's new book "Mommywood." "Home Sweet Hollywood" has been renewed for a fourth season, Klarman said.
