A new tuner from Douglas Carter Beane and a revised version of "It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman" are among the offerings of Dallas Theater Center's inaugural season at the new Wyly Theater at the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts.
Book writer Beane ("Xanadu") and composer-lyricist Lewis Flinn will preem a contempo teen take on "Lysistrata" in "Give It Up!," running Jan. 15-Feb. 14. Dan Knechtges helms and choreographs.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Good Boys and True") provides additional material for "It's a Bird," Charles Strouse and Lee Adams' 1960s Superman tuner with original book by David Newman and Robert Benton. DTC a.d. Kevin Moriarty directs the show, running June 18-July 25, 2010.
Also on DTC's 2009-10 slate are "The Beauty Plays," a trio of Neil LaBute shows including "The Shape of Things" and "Fat Pig," as well as productions of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "A Christmas Carol" and "Death of a Salesman."
The Wyly Theater is part of the new Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, a $350 million project consisting of four venues and a public park, all to be officially opened with a celebration that runs Oct. 12-18.
