Marvel taps Finberg for marketing gig

HOLLYWOOD -- As Marvel Studios readies to roll out a larger slate, the comicbook company is looking to take more control over how it promotes its pics, tapping Douglas Finberg exec VP of international marketing.

Finberg will develop and oversee the worldwide marketing campaigns for Marvel's films. Those include "Iron Man 2," "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers," which are skedded through 2012.

He will work closely with the Paramount marketing and publicity teams to oversee creative, interactive, media and publicity campaigns for theatrical releases and related homevid.

Finberg most recently served as senior VP of international marketing for Paramount Pictures Intl., a post he had since 2006.Before that, Finberg helped launch DreamWorks' international theatrical division.

Finberg will report to prexy Kevin Feige and Tim Connors, chief operating officer of Marvel Studios.

Hiring follows a deal Marvel inked with Par in September to distrib five Marvel-produced pics worldwide, with the exception of "Iron Man 2," which will be rolled out in Germany and Austria by Tele Munchen.
