Walking the red carpet beneath the sails of the Sydney Opera House were Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Karl Urban and Aussie Eric Bana, who got an enthusiastic local welcome.
Abrams said he chose Sydney from a list of international preem destinations after warming to the city on a publicity tour for "Mission: Impossible III."
The night marked the first time a film preem took place inside the Opera House's Concert Hall.
The following night, the crew trekked to New Zealand, where they were met with equally excited fans.
Pic is set for a world tour before its May 8 Stateside bow.
