Bill Clinton set for Amfar fundraiser

Former U.S. president joins Stone, Weinstein

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton is set to join Sharon Stone, Harvey Weinstein and other regulars at Amfar's annual Cinema Against Aids fundraiser.

Set for May 21, during the second week of the Cannes film festival, Amfar's starry dinner/live auction traditionally draws strong support from actors and execs who are in the South of France for the fest.

This year, Clinton's presence ups the political heft of the event. According to a statement released by Amfar, Clinton "will deliver remarks during the evening's program."

The event, hosted by Bold Films, the Weinstein Co. and Palisades Tartan, also makes a venue switch to the Hotel du Cap in Antibes this year. The soiree was normally held at the Moulin de Mougins restaurant.

Also among this year's highlights is a performance by Annie Lennox.

Cinema Against Aids has raised more than $44 million for Aids research since 1993. Last year's gala raised $10 million.

Event chairs are Stone, Weinstein, French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, thesp Michelle Yeoh, Bold Films topper Michel Litvak, Palisades Tartan's Vincent Roberti, photographer Bruce Weber and designers Donatella Versace Kenneth Cole, who also serves as Amfar's chairman.

Hewlett-Packard Company and Chopard will co-sponsor the gala.
