Fox tops ratings with 'Idol' results

CBS special 'I Get That' nabs strong numbers

On an otherwise sleepy Wednesday night, CBS attracted strong numbers for its April Fool's Day-timed special "I Get That a Lot." Fox still won the night behind "American Idol" results show.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, "I Get That a Lot" cruised to victory in the 8 o'clock hour with a 3.4 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 10.3 million viewers overall — up sharply over what CBS had been averaging in the hour with comedies and the net's best performance there since "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" in December.

The CBS special sent Fox drama "Lie to Me" to second place (2.6/8 in 18-49, 9.0 million viewers overall), where it was followed by ABC comedies "Scrubs" (1.9/6 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) and "Better Off Ted" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall), CW's "America's Next Top Model" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) and NBC's repeat of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (1.2/4 in 18-49,5.1 million viewers overall).

At 9, Fox surged to the lead with "American Idol" (8.1/20 in 18-49, 23.7 million viewers overall), with ABC's "Lost" a solid second and up slightly week to week (4.2/10 in 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall). A repeat "Criminal Minds" put CBS in third place in demos and second in total viewers (2.3/6 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall), while NBC again lagged its rivals with an original episode of "Life" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall).

It was a very quiet 10 p.m. hour, meanwhile, with CBS drama "CSI: NY" prevailing even in repeat (2.2/6 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall), ahead of the series finale of ABC's "Life on Mars" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 5.9 million viewers overall) and NBC's repeat of "Law & Order" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 5.4/15; ABC, 2.7/7; CBS, 2.6/7; Univision, 1.8/5; NBC, 1.5/4; CW, 1.1/3.
