Dutch to get Disney on VOD

Studio signs deal with Ziggo

CANNES -- Continuing to roll out new media pacts across the world, Disney-ABC-ESPN TV has inked a video-on-demand agreement with Dutch cabler Ziggo.

Deal covers ABC Studios' "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy," Jetix Europe toons, and new and library movies from Walt Disney including "Wall-E."

VOD represents monetization and a direct contact with consumers, said Ben Pyne, prexy of global distribution, Disney-ABC Worldwide Television and Disney Media Networks.

"As we go through economic downturn, we're looking at how consumers may be different when we come out of it," Pyne said at Cannes' Mip TV mart. "Consumers are looking for new ways to watch great video content. Is it small today? Yes. Do we think there's growth? Yes, we do," he added.

Pyne said Disney monitors very closely which new media deals work.

The pact coincides with Ziggo's launch of interactive TV in 2009.
