CANNES -- Toronto-based production and sales house Portfolio is teaming with Canadian animation cable channel Teletoon to produce toon series "Hood."
In the vein of two signature Portfolio toon productions -- "Chinatown Cops" and "RoboRoach" -- the adventure series presents a comic riff on Hollywood heroics.
Targeting 'tweens, "Hood" turns on a secret global organization of teens who don super-charged hoodies to defend the earth against supernatural dangers.
Howie Shia, Grand Prix winner at the 2007 Tokyo Anime Fair, created the series. Bible and initial scripts are being written by Shia and story editor Mark Leiren-Young. Series will blend 2-D and 3-D animation.
Teletoon co-financing triggers government and tax-credit coin which will cover 50%-70% of "Hood's" budget, Portfolio partner Lisa Olfman said at Cannes. International pre-sales will provide completion finance, she added.
