Written by New York playwright Bert V. Royal, the pic is a modern, high school-set retelling of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Scarlet Letter.”
Will Gluck is directing the film, which centers on a student who sees her life paralleling Hawthorne’s heroine Hester Prynne after she pretends to be the school slut in hopes she’ll benefit from the notion she’s promiscuous.
“Easy A,” which will begin lensing soon in Ojai, Calif., is being produced by Zanne Devine and Gluck. Devine, who recently produced Screen Gems’ upcoming comedy “Mardi Gras,” brought Royal’s script to the genre label.
Stone is filming the horror/comedy “Zombieland” for Columbia Pictures and recently wrapped the indie “Paper Man.” She will next be seen opposite Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner in “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.”
