Mediaset has 'Perfect Recall'

Company buys rights to gameshow

MILAN -- Continuing the international mobility of successful TV formats, Mediaset, owned by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has bought the rights for primetime Channel 4 quiz "Perfect Recall" from producer RDF.

The Italo version will be presented by ubiquitous TV personality Gerri Scotti, who fronts "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" on Mediaset's flasghip Canale 5.

"Perfect Recall" pits four contestants against one another in three elimination rounds in a test of general knowledge and memory skills.

Mediaset will extend the 30-minute format to 60 minutes, as Euro broadcasters increasingly look for longer quiz shows in later slots as a cheaper substitute for drama.

"We worked closely with Mediaset to create a format that would meet the needs of Canale 5 and it's something we'd like to explore with other producers and broadcasters for some of our other daytime formats," said Barnaby Shingleton, RDF Television's head of light entertainment acquisitions.

RDF also makes "Wife Swap" and "Secret Millionaire."
