FME acquires stake in Wide-Eyed

Company nabs 20% of CGI upstart

LONDON -- FremantleMedia Enterprises has acquired a 20% stake in upstart U.K. shingle Wide-Eyed Entertainment which specializes in CGI fare.

The company was formed last year by former Impossible Pictures and BBC executive Jasper James, BBC and Channel 4 executive producer David McNab, and Parule Basu-Barua, late of BBC America, in tandem with CGI house, Red Vision.

FME will have a three-year, first-look development deal with Wide-Eyed.

Shingle specializes in graphics-based programming. FME will distribute the shingle's output internationally.

"We've got big ideas but at this stage we're still a small company," said Jasper James, CEO of Wide-Eyed. "The partnership with FremantleMedia is all about having a global presence."

Current Wide-Eyed productions include a "Walking With Dinosaurs"-style special for National Geographic U.S. provisionally entitled "March of the Dinosaurs" and "The Real Terminator" for Discovery Canada.
