Universal has purchased the spec "Rites of Men" by Jonathan Herman.
Deal marks the second Herman spec to sell in the past few weeks. Last month, Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures nabbed Herman's bank heist thriller "Conviction."
"Rites of Men" centers on a working-class single father whose world is shattered by the unsolved murder of his only son. He embarks on a quest to discover the truth and deliver justice.
No producer is attached yet.
Herman, a onetime Hollywood assistant and development exec for Canal Plus, turned his attentions to writing full time three years ago. "Conviction" marks his first sale.
