Pic will be produced by Imagine's Brian Grazer, his first fish foray since "Splash," the breakout hit that forged his partnership with Ron Howard.
Story follows a merman who comes to land so he can win back his mermaid fiancee, who has left him for a real man. The story was hatched by the screenwriter and Jeff Moskowitz.
Imagine production president Kim Roth will be exec producer. Daniel Rosenberg is in talks to be a producer, and Lisa Blum is in negotiations to be an executive producer.
Imagine and U are prepping for a production start on the untitled Robin Hood film that Ridley Scott is directing, with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett starring, as well as the Asger Leth-directed drama "Cartel," with Sean Penn in talks to star.
