The mini-major announced Tuesday that Collins will adapt her own novel, the first in a trilogy.
"The Hunger Games," published in the fall, takes place in a society in which districts pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl who are forced to fight to the death on live TV.
The second installment, "Catching Fire," is due out in September.
The company noted that "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer has praised "The Hunger Games," which has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for 25 consecutive weeks.
