Pic, which stars Kristin Scott-Thomas, Thomas Sangster and Anne-Marie Duff, recounts the teenage years of the Beatles co-founder.
Script was penned by Matt Greenhalgh, who won a BAFTA Award earlier this year for helmer Anton Corbijn's "Control," about doomed Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.
Lensing began March 8 on location in Lennon's native Liverpool.
The Weinstein Co. acquired the rights from U.K.-based Hanway Films.
U.K.-based Ecosse Films' Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae will produce the project, with Hanway handling worldwide sales.
Pic was co-developed by public funding org the U.K. Film Council.
"Nowhere Boy" marks the feature directorial debut of artist-turned-filmmaker Taylor-Wood. She was previously part of the loosely defined Young British Artist group, alongside the likes of Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin, which turned the Brit art scene on its head during much of the 1990s.
Taylor-Wood's debut short "Love You More," produced by her mentor, the late Anthony Minghella, was an official selection at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
