The film is in production and on track to be finished early next year. Producers are Albie Hecht and his wife, Susan MacLaury. Their Shine Global shingle, a nonprofit aimed at ending child exploitation and abuse, received an Oscar nomination for the 2007 feature doc "War Dance."
Director-producer U. Roberto Romano and exec producer Rory O'Connor brought the project to Shine. Romano and his crew plan to shoot "Harvest" during the upcoming harvest season, when an estimated 500,000 underage farm workers can be found on American farms.
The film's backdrop will be workers' homes in California, Texas and Florida and the many other states where they travel to find work.
Hecht, a longtime former exec at Nickelodeon and Spike, now runs Gotham-based multimedia outfit Worldwide Biggies.
For Longoria Parker, the film fits with the focus of her activist and philanthropic efforts. She works closely with the United Farm Workers, the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund and several other groups, often on migrant labor and children's issues.
