Stephen Colbert shoots for the stars

Host urges fans to write him in on NASA poll

By
Stephen Colbert is trying to increase his star power in a different way by asking fans to write in his name in an online NASA poll that will determine the name of the international space station's new room.

NASA has offered voters the choice of Earthrise, Legacy, Serenity and Venture and says the name "should reflect the spirit of exploration and cooperation embodied by the space station."

Even if Colbert does gain enough votes to win, NASA could overrule the decision since its voting rules state "the results are not binding and NASA reserves the right to ultimately select a name in accordance with the best interests of the agency, its needs and other considerations."

But that hasn't stopped "The Colbert Report" host from asking viewers for their support. He already has a Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor named after him.

Voting is open until March 20, and the winning name will be announced in April.
