Kopple
VH1 and the History Channel will co-produce Barbara Kopple's docu commemorating the 40th anniversary of Woodstock.
The feature-length doc, which will run on both cable networks in August, will showcase the legendary rock festival and the days leading up to it. Original fest organizer Michael Lang serves as exec producer (
Daily Variety, Aug. 8).
To promote the film, VH1 is partnering on a cross-promotional campaign with Warner Home Video, which is marketing its own separate title, a four-hour director's cut DVD and Blu-ray release of Michael Wadleigh's 1970 documentary "Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music."
Other tie-ins to the anniversary include another music-filled event being planned near the site of the original concert; a memoir from Lang; and Focus Features' "Taking Woodstock," an adaptation of a memoir by Elliot Tiber, who introduced Lang to Max Yasgur, the farmer who rented out his land to the fest at the last minute.
