London's 'Avenue' extended

Show to reopen on June 1 at Gielgud Theater

The West End incarnation of "Avenue Q" has a new lease on life, with the show closing as announced at the Noel Coward Theater on March 28 -- only to reopen June 1 at the Gielgud Theater.

Shuttering of the London production had been announced in October. Producer Cameron Mackintosh said the show's last four months of sales, which he characterized as the best yet for the 2½-year-old production, persuaded him to give the Broadway-born tuner a reprieve.

Current cast of "Q" will move with it to the Gielgud.
